12-pole power hybrid connector combining 10 signal contacts and 2 high-current contacts rated 250 A, with IP6K9K protection and over 10,000 mating cycles.
Apparatebau Kirchheim-Teck builds the 12-pole power hybrid connector for 0 to 48 V systems. In short, the AK 401 010 010 plug and AK 402 010 010 socket combine power and signal in one mating event. As a result, design engineers gain a compact alternative to running separate power and control harnesses. Furthermore, one coupling now handles both functions.
First, two AKNH high-current contacts of Ø 8 mm sit inside the housing. In addition, ten signal contacts of Ø 2.5 mm sit alongside them. The high-current poles use round lamella technology. Consequently, contact resistance stays below 30 μΩ and the contacts support up to 250 A. Moreover, the power contacts cover wire ranges from 16 mm² to 50 mm². For example, current ratings step from 130 A at 16 mm² to 240 A at 50 mm² at +80 °C ambient. Additionally, the supplier stocks both standard and fine-stranded conductor versions.
Signal contacts also cover wire ranges from 0.35 mm² up to 2.5 mm². Notably, each cross-section carries a separate part number for plug and socket variants. Therefore, the 12-pole power hybrid connector lets designers route auxiliary lines, sensor returns, or interlock signals next to the main power path. Above all, no secondary connector is needed.
In practice, the housing meets IP6K9K. In other words, the class covers dust-tight enclosures exposed to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Meanwhile, the supplier qualifies the design for more than 10,000 mating cycles. Because of this, frequent connect and disconnect duty suits the part well. Additionally, coil cable variants run from 2 × 16 mm² through 2 × 50 mm² at 4 m working length. Seals cover corrugated tube in NW 26 and NW 29. Likewise, twin-bore inserts handle cable jackets.
Configuration also stays modular. Specifically, the PG36 lamellar cap accepts different seals to match the outgoing cable style. In addition, customers can order contacts and wire seals separately. As a result, the same connector body adapts to multiple harness designs without retooling. Ultimately, OEMs building battery-electric vehicles, mobile equipment, or industrial machinery in the 0 to 48 V band gain a single mechanical interface. To summarise, this 12-pole power hybrid connector covers both load and logic in one part.
