Resettable high-voltage breaker combining protection and contactor functionality in a single, electromechanical unit.
The HVB10 High Voltage Breaker from E-T-A is an innovative, compact, and electromechanical protection and switching device designed for high-voltage battery systems in commercial electric vehicles. Developed for next-generation EV architectures, the HVB10 integrates multiple functions—traditionally distributed across relays, fuses, pyrofuses, and busbars—into one robust and serviceable unit.
Unlike conventional solutions that rely on pyrotechnic components and complex wiring, the HVB10 delivers reliable overcurrent and short-circuit protection using a purely mechanical approach. Its dual NO contacts simultaneously isolate both the positive and negative poles of the battery, ensuring full galvanic disconnection without the need for external electronics or a low-voltage power supply.
With a rated voltage of 850V and continuous current handling of 340A, the HVB10 supports fast-charging capabilities up to 650A for 18 minutes, making it ideal for high-demand applications such as long-haul e-trucks and fast-charging infrastructure. Its mechanical lifespan of 500,000 operations and advanced arc-quenching design ensure long-term durability and safety.
The HVB10's resettable mechanism allows vehicles to resume operation without service intervention, reducing downtime significantly. It also features mirror contact monitoring using resistance values, enabling reliable and maintenance-free contact status feedback.
By replacing up to 15 discrete components in a battery junction box—including contactors, fuses, pyrofuses, relays, and busbars—the HVB10 simplifies system architecture, reduces weight and wiring complexity, and enhances overall thermal management.
Ideal for OEMs and integrators seeking to improve efficiency, serviceability, and safety, the HVB10 sets a new standard in high-voltage protection solutions for electromobility.
