Kontron VX3124 ARM VPX module delivers 16-core Arm® Cortex®-A72 performance with secure architecture and rugged design for embedded systems.
Kontron VX3124 ARM VPX module is a rugged, high-performance 3U VPX computing board designed for demanding embedded applications in defense, aerospace, and industrial environments. Powered by the NXP QorIQ® Layerscape® LX2160A System-on-Chip, it integrates sixteen Arm® Cortex®-A72 cores running up to 2.0 GHz, delivering outstanding processing performance while maintaining a low power consumption of only 30 watts.
Built for mission-critical systems, the Kontron VX3124 Arm VPX module combines exceptional compute density with robust data integrity features such as ECC-protected DDR4 memory, dual flash for recovery, and integrated F-RAM for critical data preservation. Its secure boot, Arm® TrustZone™, and rollback protection mechanisms ensure data confidentiality and platform reliability, even in the harshest operational conditions.
The module supports a wide range of I/O options including PCIe Gen3, SATA III, USB 3.0, serial ports, and both front and rear Ethernet interfaces (10GBASE-KR and 1000BASE-T), providing flexible connectivity for modern sensor and communication systems. A top-mounted M.2 socket allows for fast local SSD storage expansion, ideal for data logging or real-time analytics applications.
Fully compliant with VITA 65 slot and module profiles (SLT3-PAY and MOD3-PAY), the VX3124 supports modular integration in multi-vendor VPX systems. Its conduction- and air-cooled versions allow deployment across diverse temperature and vibration conditions, meeting VITA 47-Class V1 to V3 standards for ruggedization.
The Kontron VX3124 ARM VPX module supports U-Boot and Linux (Yocto) natively, with VxWorks™ available on request, making it ideal for software-defined applications such as mission computing, ISR, secure tactical communication, AI edge processing, and transportation control systems. With over ten years of lifecycle support and compliance with open VPX standards, it offers a future-proof solution for long-term embedded programs where performance, reliability, and security are non-negotiable.
