Rugged mission computing platform for defense systems, autonomous vehicles, AI, HPEC, high-speed I/O, and modular expansion.
The rugged mission computing platform Kontron S1901 COBALT™ delivers high performance for demanding defense, autonomous, and edge computing applications. It combines Intel® server-class processing with a flexible modular design. This makes the platform a strong choice for AI, Deep Learning, sensor fusion, and mission control systems.
Kontron designed the S1901 COBALT™ for next-generation in-vehicle applications. These include unmanned vehicles, military systems, and high-performance edge computing. The platform supports COM Express® Intel® processors and gives system designers several configuration options. As a result, engineers can adapt the system to specific project needs.
The S1901 COBALT™ gives developers wide expansion flexibility. It supports GPU, FPGA, or specialized processing modules. It also includes M.2, mPCIe, and removable 2.5-inch storage options. This helps integrators build powerful systems for AI processing, video handling, and real-time data analysis.
The platform can handle multiple accelerator configurations. Therefore, it suits applications that need fast data processing close to the sensor. It also helps reduce system complexity because users can combine processing, storage, and I/O in one rugged unit.
This rugged mission computing platform includes strong connectivity for complex defense systems. It offers 10GBASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, and multiple 1000BASE-T Ethernet ports. It also includes USB, serial, GPIO, audio, GPS, and PPS support.
Optional wireless connectivity adds more flexibility. The datasheet lists cellular connectivity, Wi-Fi, and four SIM cards for up to three simultaneous 5G or LTE connections. These options help support mobile platforms, connected vehicles, and field-deployed systems.
Kontron built the S1901 COBALT™ for demanding environmental conditions. The datasheet lists passive convective cooling with conduction cooling through the bottom plate. It also lists MIL-STD qualification testing, IP67 ingress protection, and an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +70 °C, depending on configuration.
The system also handles vibration, shock, altitude, rain, sand, dust, salt fog, and explosive atmospheres. Because of this rugged design, the S1901 COBALT™ fits defense deployments where reliability matters. It gives integrators a configurable platform for mission computing, AI acceleration, and high-speed communication in harsh operating environments.
